Koba inks by JosephLSilver
Koba inks
Another movie villain, this time Koba from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The inks here are a bit of an experiment if I'm being honest. I've sort of worked in the framework of a central theme deriving from my biggest inking influences (John Totleben, Berni Wrightson, Franklin Booth, Joseph Clement Coll, Gustave Dore and the like) but I fell like i should have tried a more steady approach. Fortunately I have my pencils in hi res to try it again. I just feel the technique didn't do the pencils the service I wanted to. I often find myself of 2 different minds when I'm doing both.

I have a couple other ideas, but I may move away from the villain theme at least for now to explore other interests.

Inked entirely with a W+N series 7 #2 brush and Holbein ink.

The process video is below.

My observation on a major current trend in comics:

artisticmyth.wordpress.com/201…
Short version: Bills need to be paid, work is coming in VERY slowly and Patreon is not really doing much at this point. So to that end I have a down and dirty deal on commissions:

Pencil: $40

Ink: $45

Wash: $55

I still have originals of many of the pics I've demoed if people are interested. Feel free to respond here or note me.
Koba Pencils by JosephLSilver
Koba Pencils
And here's the next villain on the docket: Koba from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Both a fine film and an even better cautionary tale about apes with guns.

I'll be working on the ink videos soon.
